Residential Limited Credit Programme (LCP) (aka Dementia)

This group of unit standards for this LCP supports care-givers entering the dementia Residential field and represents the essential knowledge and skills required for working with residents affected by dementia.  The age related residential care contract requires care-givers to complete the unit standards relating to dementia care within twelve months of commencing employment.

In addition, feedback from industry indicates that some trainees are daunted by the prospect of starting the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Residential) (L3) and its pre-requisite the National Certificate in Community Support (Core Competencies) (L3), a combined two-year programme of 113 credits. Providing trainees with the opportunity to commit to a smaller group of unit standards (LCP) provides a more accessible pathway into training; and once trainees have experienced success, most of them will move on to complete one or both National Certificates.

This LCP programme will replace the existing 27-credit LCP in Support of the Older Person [2413] which we intend to discontinue by 31 December 2009.
